“NEW CITY. NEW CHAPTER,” Holland wrote. 

He said the past few weeks have been “a whirlwind” as he relocated to Austin and settled into the newsroom.

“I’m grateful for everyone who’s helped me get here,” Holland wrote. “Thank you to my family, friends, mentors, and everyone who’s supported me along the way. I’m excited to tell great stories, cover Texas sports, and continue growing every day. Austin—let’s get to work.”

Holland told Chron he was drawn to KXAN because of its reputation for journalism and storytelling. 

“Joining a newsroom with such a collaborative culture that’s always looking for new ways to reach its audience felt like the right fit for how I approach this profession,” he said. 

While his role includes contributing to news coverage, Holland said he’s especially eager to cover sports across Central Texas. 

“Of course, covering the University of Texas is a tremendous opportunity, but I’m equally excited by Austin’s unique and evolving sports landscape—from high school athletics to the city’s growing professional sports scene—and the chance to tell stories that resonate across Central Texas. 

Holland said he’s “incredibly grateful” for the opportunity to continue growing as a storyteller in Austin. He arrives after working as a sports anchor and reporter at KVEO in the Rio Grande Valley, where he covered everything from Friday night football to Division I athletics.

A two-time Texas Broadcast News Award winner, he also hosted the weekly 30-minute television show Vaqueros Nation, anchored the station’s digital sports program Vaqueros Nation Unfiltered, and produced long-form features and documentaries, including a four-part series on the launch of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley football program.

A native of the St. Louis area, Holland graduated with honors from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. While at Mizzou, he worked as a reporter, producer and anchor at KOMU 8, the university-owned NBC affiliate.

Holland is the latest addition to KXAN’s on-air team. In June, Sydney Gray joined the Austin station as a weekend morning anchor and reporter after spending three and a half years anchoring weekend mornings at WMC Action News 5 in Memphis. Before that, she worked in Texas as the morning anchor at NBC 23 KVEO in the Rio Grande Valley.
