EXACTLY. YEAH, DEFINITELY NOT. RIGHT NOW. IT IS VERY SUNNY, STILL VERY HOT. JODI AS WE GO INTO THIS AFTERNOON, DEEPER INTO IT, AT LEAST WEST DES MOINES SKYCAM, WE DO HAVE SOME FILTERED SUNSHINE, JUST SOME LIGHT CLOUD COVER HERE IN CENTRAL IOWA, BUT 89 DEGREES FEELS LIKE 97. WE WERE EXPECTING ANOTHER DAY CLOSE TO THAT TRIPLE DIGIT MARK. AS FAR AS THOSE HEAT INDEX VALUES, AND WE ARE STILL ON OUR WAY TO IT. AS FAR AS THE OVERALL TEMPERATURES, IT’S STILL HOT AND HUMID TODAY. AND THEN AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT ABOUT 48 HOURS, WE ARE SEEING THE SEVERE WEATHER RISK AS WE GET INTO THIS EVENING, TONIGHT TO TOMORROW MORNING, AND THEN ANOTHER CHANCE FRIDAY NIGHT. AS WE TALK ABOUT THE HEAVY RAIN POTENTIALLY BRINGING AN ISOLATED FLOOD THREAT AS WELL, I’M GOING TO GET TO THE RAINFALL TOTALS HERE IN A MOMENT, THE ONES WE’RE EXPECTING. BUT RIGHT NOW IT’S AN ISOLATED CLUSTER OF SOME STRONGER STORMS. STILL LOOKING AT SOME OF THESE STORMS PASSING OVER CLARION AND WRIGHT COUNTY MOVING TOWARDS HAMPTON. BUT THE STRONGEST STORM IT IS THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNED AREA FOR LARGE PORTION OF CERRO GORDO COUNTY. SO IT’S FARTHER NORTH, PASSING OVER CLEAR LAKE OVER MASON CITY RIGHT NOW. THAT’S WHAT WE’RE SEEING FOR ABOUT AN INCH IN DIAMETER. HAIL AND ALSO WIND GUSTS AROUND 60MPH. THAT IS A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. AND WE ARE EXPECTING POTENTIALLY MORE OF THOSE DEEPER INTO THE STATE AS WE GO DEEPER INTO THIS FORECAST. SO LET’S TIME THIS OUT FOR THE AFTERNOON. LOOKING AT FUTURE TRACK, WE ARE STILL MAINLY FOCUSED TO THE NORTH CENTRAL PORTION OF THE STATE. MOST OF THE IOWA OUTSIDE OF THERE IS GOING TO BE MOSTLY DRY, JUST SOME. THESE PASSING CLOUDS NOW DEEPER INTO THE EVENING IS WHENEVER WE SEE MORE OF THESE STORM CHANCES, KIND OF DIG DEEPER SOUTH. SO IT’S STILL ALONG THIS I-35 CORRIDOR AND JUST EAST OF. AS WE GO INTO THE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT, THIS IS AROUND 10:00 STORMS PRETTY MUCH MOVING OUT, BUT STILL TRYING TO HOLD ON. SO WE ARE GOING TO SEE ISOLATED STORM CHANCES FOR THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. BUT IT’S TOMORROW MORNING. THE BETTER CHANCE FOR THESE STORMS TO PUSH ON IN. IT WILL STILL HOLD THAT STRONG WIND THREAT AS WE GO THROUGH TOMORROW MORNING, STARTING AROUND 5 A.M., THEN AROUND 10 A.M. TO 11 A.M., IT STARTS TO FIZZLE OUT, PUSH ON OUT, AND MOSTLY DRY. WE’RE STILL GOING TO SEE A CHANCE FOR SOME ISOLATED, STRONGER STORMS AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON, BUT IT’S MOSTLY DRY ACROSS THE STATE UNTIL WE GET INTO FRIDAY EVENING. SO THIS IS THE THIRD ROUND OF STORMS THAT ARE EXPECTED TO PUSH ON THROUGH. AND AS LONG AS THE ATMOSPHERE CAN RECOVER FROM THE EARLY FRIDAY MORNING, STORM CHANCES, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THE NEXT ROUND THAT COMES IN LATER ON IN THE EVENING. THIS IS AROUND 9 TO 10:00 AND THEN SWEEPS INTO CENTRAL IOWA. CLOSE AROUND THAT 11 P.M. TO AROUND MIDNIGHT TIME FRAME. AS FAR AS THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TODAY, MAINLY THE EVENING GOING INTO THE FIRST HALF OF THE OVERNIGHT INTO EARLY TOMORROW MORNING, IT’S GOING TO BE ALONG AND NORTH OF I-80, THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT. AND THEN AS WE GO INTO TOMORROW, CHECK THIS OUT. THIS IS NEW FOR FROM THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER FOR TOMORROW, ESPECIALLY AREAS WEST OF I-35. WE ARE GOING TO SEE THAT THREE OUT OF FIVE CHANCE FOR SEVERE WEATHER AS WE GO INTO PREDOMINANTLY THE AROUND AND AFTER SUNSET TIME AND THEN DEEPER INTO THE OVERNIGHT, THOSE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAKEN AS THEY PUSH THEIR WAY ACROSS THE STATE. HEAVY RAINS AROUND A HALF AN INCH UP TO AROUND TWO INCHES OF RAINFALL JUST GOING INTO TOMORROW MORNING. IT WILL TAKE THAT ON AND WE COULD SEE AN ISOLATED FLOOD THREAT, WITH SOME AREAS PICKING UP AROUND FOUR FIVE INCHES OF RAINFALL POSSIBLE. AS WE GO AND WRAP THINGS UP SATURDAY MORNING

Thousands of MidAmerican Energy customers are without power west of the metro as thunderstorms push through central Iowa.

According to MidAmerican’s outage tracker, more than 6,000 customers lost power around 4 p.m., including 3,100 in Adel. The exact cause of the outage is not yet known.
