LUBBOCK, Texas (November 4, 2025) — St. Mary’s edged Lubbock Christian University 1-0 on Tuesday at LCU Soccer & Track Complex, as the Lady Chaps locked into the No. 7 seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
Despite a solid defensive effort by the Lady Chaps, with their goalkeeper making nine saves, St. Mary’s scored the lone goal in the first half. LCU managed 13 shots, but only four were on target, and they were unable to find the back of the net.
Lubbock Christian stands at 8-7-2 overall and 6-5-2 in conference play. The Rattlers hold a record of 9-5-3 overall and 8-4-2 in conference play.
Junior goalkeeper Emma Wright recorded nine saves, facing 15 shots in the match. Journey Curs led the team with four shots, one of which was on goal. Ella Spiller contributed with three shots, including two on target.
The opening period saw the Lady Chaps creating several opportunities to challenge the St. Mary’s defense. Wright started in goal, making key saves to keep the game knotted up.
Abcdee Herrera’s early attempt was saved, but the team continued to press, earning multiple corner kicks and shots, notably from Curs and Spiller. Despite these efforts, the Chaps were unable to find the back of the net.
St. Mary’s took the lead when Michelle Ramirez scored in the 18th minute, assisted by Addison Miller.
The Lady Chaps responded with attempts from Bonnie Miller and Sydney Smith, both narrowly missing the target. The period closed with the Lady Chaps trailing 1-0, as their persistent attacks were met with firm resistance from the Rattlers’ goalkeeper.
The second half began with the Chaps looking to overturn the narrow deficit. Wright was pivotal for the home team, making crucial saves against St. Mary’s attempts, including shots from Valerie Hover and Marily Garza Contreras. Curs and Logan Holloway both attempted to find an equalizer for the Lady Chaps, but their efforts did not find the target.
Despite continued pressure from the Rattlers, Wright’s goalkeeping kept the home side in contention, stopping multiple shots from Elena Kossler and Malia Dominguez. The period concluded with the Chaps unable to break through the visitor’s defense, ending the match with a 1-0 loss.
GAME NOTES:
– The Lady Chaps finish the regular season as the No. 7 seed, meaning they will make the conference tournament for the first time since 2022.
– Wright made a career-high nine saves against the Rattlers. It is the most saves by a Lady Chap since Sept. 6, 2023, when Kara Murray had 10 against Regis.
– The Lady Chaps are now 0-7-2 in games in which their opponent scores first.
– Spiller had three more shots and now has 52 on the season. It is the most in one year by a Lady Chap since 2022, when Graycen Rasmussen had 60.
– LCU had more corner kicks (5) than StMU (3) and they are now 4-4-1 when having more corner kicks than their opponent.
