According to a post online, there’ll be no “P” in fireworks this year in Pflugerville this Fourth of July holiday. The City has chose not to sponsor a fireworks show this year so resources can be focused on other services the community relies on, officials said.
“The City chose not to sponsor a fireworks show this year so resources could be focused on the priority services our community relies on every day,” the post reads. “As our nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we encourage community members to enjoy the many holiday activities and professional fireworks displays happening throughout the region.”
So, what does that mean for the city’s residents when it comes to the celebration of the holiday tomorrow? Well, while the sale of fireworks is permitted in the county, fireworks of any kind, including sparklers, are now prohibited within Pflugerville city limits.
As you can imagine, the news didn’t exactly go well with locals online. As one comment perfectly noted, “that’s something the British government would have told the founding fathers.”
A spokesperson for the City articulated on the matter further via email, telling KXAN that the post online wasn’t referring to any one service in particular.
“As the City developed the FY 2026 budget, it focused on prioritizing essential daily services,” the email states. “That meant scaling back so the City could continue delivering the services our community depends on. The City knows the pfireworks show is a beloved tradition and understands many are disappointed. This was not an easy decision.”
If you’re wondering just how much last year’s Fourth of July celebration cost the City, the spokesperson told KXAN that it was around $64,382. That price included both fireworks and staffing.
