BENBROOK – Heaven gained a precious soul when Jesus welcomed Bobbie Schaub Courtney home on June 23, 2026. A longtime resident of Benbrook, Texas, she was about to celebrate her 94th birthday and was currently living in Granbury, Texas. Bobbie was born to Herman and Quimma Baize Schaub on August 14, 1932, at her family’s farmhouse in Gatesville, Texas, of Coryell County. She graduated from Gatesville High School at the age of 16 and moved to Waco, Texas, where she completed courses in shorthand, bookkeeping and accounting at Central City Community College (nicknamed 4C). Afterward, she was employed in the business office of Texas Power and Light for five years. Her parents instilled in her the importance of serving others, upholding her Christian values and maintaining a strong work ethic which she demonstrated throughout her life. As the wife of an officer in the U.S. Air Force, she faced every challenge with the grace of a true Southern Belle, even when it meant relocating and raising her children in the harsh conditions of the New Mexico desert or through the brutal winters of the Canadian border of Maine. Upon their eventual return to Texas, she became a member of the Officer’s Wives Club and volunteered for more than thirty years organizing inventory at the thrift shop of Carswell Air Force Base. Quick witted and full of laughter, Bobbie enjoyed competitive games of cards or dominoes with friends and was an active member of Western Hills Baptist Church in Benbrook, Texas. She cherished all of her loved ones and graciously fulfilled the role of family matriarch for many years. Her vibrant blue eyes, beautiful smile and caring spirit will forever be missed by all who were blessed to know her. In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clifford Courtney; brother and sister-in-law, Reid and Neta Schaub; and grandson, Patrick Ashcraft. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her children, Mike and Joy Mallory of Bowdon, Georgia, Pat Mallory of Granbury, Texas, Clifford Courtney Jr of Keller, Texas, Kim and Ted Wenrich of Granbury, Texas, and Medford Courtney of Fort Worth, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Judi Schaub of Gatesville, Texas, and Ron and Claudia Schaub of Nacogdoches, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Greenwood Funeral Homes and Cremation is entrusted with arrangements. A service honoring Bobbie’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107; with Reverend Charles McLaughlin to officiate and eulogy provided by Sarah McDonnell.
