Tesla is getting into the holiday spirit in a big way as the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th Independence Day this Saturday. A production version of the upcoming Cybercab robotaxi was spotted out in the wild this week with a loud, patriotic design that pays tribute to both the country and its manufacturing home of Texas.

Longtime Tesla watcher and prolific Full Self-Driving user @DavidMoss shared a video on X after spotting the car rolling down the streets of Austin, Texas. Tesla enthusiast and drone operator @JoeTegtmeyer also spotted the same custom-wrapped Cybercab, sharing a few more views of the vehicle at rest.

Cybercab Meets USA 250th Anniversary!🇺🇸

I just spotted this on the streets of Austin, TX with an incredible patriotic/Texas themed wrap.

Any guesses on what Tesla must have in store for this 4th of July Independence Day? pic.twitter.com/4jJRE1hk3a

A Closer Look at the Patriotic Design

The close-up shots provide a fantastic look at the detailed artwork. As seen from the sides, the wrap features a weathered, industrial texture mixed with stars and stripes. The iconic concluding line of the national anthem, “Land of the free and home of the brave,” is printed boldly across the doors against the backdrop of the American flag.

The front hood and bumper feature aggressive shark teeth inspired by the military nose art found on classic warplanes like the A-10, while a Lone Star emblem is printed on each of the aerodynamic gold wheel covers. The latter represents Texas, where Tesla is currently ramping up Cybercab mass production at Gigafactory Austin. A prominent “Made in Texas” logo shaped like the state outline is also stamped on the sides and the rear.

Meanwhile, the roof is completely covered by the U.S. flag, with the stars and stripes running across its entirety. A Cybertruck with a similar 250th birthday wrap was also spotted roaming around the area.

Testing With a Human Touch

While it’s great to see more Cybercabs out in public, the video revealed an interesting hardware detail. This specific wrapped unit was equipped with a physical steering wheel and had a human safety driver actively operating the controls. Tesla originally kicked off Cybercab mass production back in April and is now deep into road testing. Early validation builds still have manual driving controls like a steering wheel and pedals, but the ultimate goal is to remove them entirely. In fact, just earlier this week, Tesla started testing steering wheel-less Cybercabs on public roads in Austin to prepare for fully autonomous operations.

These custom-wrapped vehicles are a fun way to build hype before the weekend celebrations. However, Tesla is also known for dropping exclusive promotional offers for occasions like the Fourth of July. Last summer, buyers received free paint upgrades for red, white, and blue exterior options, saving up to $2,500 per order. If Tesla plans to continue that tradition, we expect an announcement to drop on Saturday morning with whatever’s in store for this historic year. Last year’s promo was announced on the 4th of July and ran for about 10 days.
