A heat advisory for Harris County, which includes cities like Houston, Baytown, and Pasadena, will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and continue until 7 p.m. that same evening. Heat index values are forecast to reach around 110 degrees Fahrenheit—that’s 43 degrees Celsius for our visitors from Canada and Morocco attending the final World Cup match at Houston Stadium.

While the sun will be out in full force on Saturday, stock up on water and other hydration options, and if you’re out and about, keep a sweat towel in your back pocket. Temperatures are expected to reach 95 on Saturday, and the humidity will make it feel closer to 105. So for those wondering, we’re officially on broil when it comes to the heat.

According to the Weather Service, please take extra precautions when spending time outside this weekend. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and try to limit strenuous activity to the early morning or evening. Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and take action if you notice any signs.

However, there may be a bit of reprieve from the heat, just in time for fireworks tonight. According to Eric Berger of Space City Weather, the region “could see the development of some showers and thunderstorms.” 

“Perhaps 10 to 20 percent of the region could see rain develop, and if it does there may also be thunderstorms,” Berger said, while noting that everything should be cleared up by the evening.
