SAN MARCOS, Texas — A Hays County jury sentenced a San Marcos man to life in prison last week after a jury found him guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Javier Ortega Gonzalez, 51, was found guilty on Oct. 30 after the jury found the abuse began when the child was around 5 years old and continued for several years. Additional evidence presented at trial revealed that Gonzalez had also been physically abusive to multiple children and adults.

Due to the nature of the charge, Gonzalez will not be eligible for parole. He was sentenced the next day to life in prison.
The case was investigated extensively by the San Marcos Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Miranda Ebersole and Rebecca Lopez.
Ebersole praised the victim’s courage in testifying, saying, “We thank the jury for their verdict and for ensuring that this defendant can never sexually abuse a child again.”
