SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Sod Poodles defeated the San Antonio Missions 1-0 Sunday at Nelson Wolff Stadium, with six pitchers combining for the shutout in the series finale.
Jansel Luis drove in the game’s only run with an RBI double to left field in the top of the first inning. Cristofer Torin led off with an infield single and moved to second on an Anderdson Rojas sacrifice bunt before scoring on Luis’ double.
Starter Adonys Perez held San Antonio scoreless over 3.2 innings, allowing four hits and striking out five. Five relievers — Indigo Diaz, Blake Cederlind, Sandro Santana, Alfred Morillo and Carlos Rey — combined to retire the final 16 outs.
Rey allowed a leadoff single in the ninth but picked off the pinch runner to defuse the threat, then struck out the next two batters to close out Amarillo’s fourth shutout of the season.
The Sod Poodles struck out 12 Missions batters without issuing a walk.
