EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso County Sheriff deputies, detectives, detention officers and jail inmates came together to help clean up Red Sands after the Fourth of July celebrations.
In a Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office showcased the clean-up team effort, filling the back of a truck with several large trash bags.
Jail inmates and EPCSO team members are seen cleaning up trash, broken canopies and even getting help picking up wooden pallets with a construction vehicle.

“Keeping our community clean is a team effort, and we’re proud to do our part. Thank you to everyone who helped make a difference by picking up trash and helping preserve this popular recreation area for everyone to enjoy,” read part of the post by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte.
In addition to cleanup efforts, the EPCSO reported that its “Operation 4th of July” was a success, with no major incidents or fatalities reported.
Officials stated that the operation’s focus was to keep roadways safe through increased patrols, high-visibility enforcement, and the deployment of the DWI Task Force throughout the holiday weekend.
The DWI Task Force conducted 440 traffic stops, issued 151 citations, and 531 warnings, officials reported. Deputies made 34 total arrests, with 28 of them for DWI offenses.
Deputies also impounded six illegally operated all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
“These results show what we can accomplish when law enforcement and the community work together,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “Last year marked the first Independence Day holiday in recent years without a major incident or traffic fatality in our areas of responsibility, and I’m proud we achieved that again this year. I want to thank our deputies, our law enforcement partners, and the community for making responsible choices throughout the holiday weekend. By working together, we were able to keep our roads safer and ensure families could celebrate Independence Day safely.”
