Not unlike Terry Black’s in Dallas, another famed Texas barbecue joint got a surge in business thanks to the FIFA World Cup. Fans from England, Croatia, Japan and more stopped by The Original Roy Hutchins Barbeque’s new outpost in Arlington to devour all things Texas barbecue during their Lone Star State holiday. Now it’s looking like the Hutchins’ are eyeing even more expansion in North Texas.
The Original Roy Hutchins Barbeque expanded to Arlington on March 13, but social posts from one of its owners indicate the brand could be planning a third smokehouse. Wes Hutchins, the son of the titular Roy Hutchins and co-owner of the business, made two Instagram posts on July 1 sharing photos of Roy Hutchins barbecue with the words “The best in Texas. Roy Hutchins BBQ is coming to Rockwall, Texas.” The two posts have been liked almost 2,000 times as of Tuesday, July 7, and Wes Hutchins added the comment, “exciting times exciting time.”
Rumors about the expansion spread to Facebook with the groups Forney Eats and North Texas BBQ Addicts commenting on the news, and over 600 fans confirming that it’s Roy Hutchins Barbeque and not Hutchins BBQ. While the brand has not officially confirmed the move, Wes Hutchins added more wood to the fire on his Facebook page writing, “Exciting about the new establishment coming to Rockwall, Texas.”
MySA has reached out to The Original Roy Hutchins Barbeque for confirmation of the new smokehouse in Rockwall.
Hutchins BBQ first opened in 1978 and today has locations in McKinney and Frisco.
Roy Hutchins was part of the business from the start but in 2023 his son, Wes, and grandson, Zack, broke off from Hutchins and opened The Original Roy Hutchins Barbeque. Similar to the split between The Original Black’s Barbecue and Terry Black’s Barbecue, both Hutchins brands have loyal followings and are known for the Texas Twinkie, a jalapeño pepper stuffed with cream cheese and brisket and wrapped in bacon.
The Original Roy Hutchins Barbeque first opened in Trophy Club at 3000 TX-114, Trophy Club, TX 76262. A second restaurant opened in Arlington this March at 1600 E. Copeland Road, Arlington, TX 76011.
