A new generation of a familiar Houston TV family is stepping into Texas news. Corpus Christi’s KRIS 6 introduced Raegan Garvin on Friday as the newest neighborhood reporter on its news team.
The recent University of Oklahoma graduate, who is the daughter of longtime KPRC 2 anchor Keith Garvin, will cover Bee, Live Oak, San Patricio and Refugio counties for the NBC affiliate.
“Starting in a new community is always exciting, but what I’ve seen here so far has just blown me away,” Garvin said in a video shared by KRIS 6. “The people, the businesses and the leaders who work so hard to make this place as special as it is, that’s what I want to focus on as a reporter.”
Garvin graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma, where she reported and anchored for OU Nightly while gaining experience both on camera and behind the scenes. She also interned at Houston’s KHOU 11 during college.
Returning to her home state to begin her reporting career made the milestone even more meaningful, she wrote after accepting the job.
“Getting the opportunity to step into this next chapter means so much to me, and getting to do it back in my home state makes it even sweeter,” Garvin wrote. “And of course, thank you to my dad [Keith Garvin]. I wouldn’t love journalism the way I do without you. Thank you for planting the seed early on and showing me every day just how meaningful and impactful this field can be.”
According to her KRIS 6 biography, Garvin was raised in Katy and graduated from Seven Lakes High School. The station describes her as “a proud Texan at heart” who enjoys connecting with people and sharing stories that matter to their communities. Outside the newsroom, she enjoys going to the beach, reading, crafting, building with Legos and spending time with animals.
Garvin also spent 19 years as a competitive cheerleader, an experience KRIS 6 says instilled the teamwork, determination and ability to perform under pressure that she brings to journalism.

Garvin is one of two recent additions to the KRIS 6 neighborhood reporting team. The station also recently hired Jordan Benavides to cover Kleberg, Brooks and Kenedy counties. A Corpus Christi native and Ray High School graduate, Benavides earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast media from the University of North Texas in May, where he worked as a live reporter and producer for the student-run NTTV newsroom.
The hires come shortly after neighborhood reporter Melissa Trevino departed KRIS 6 following a three-year run at the station.
