Motorists traveling through Central El Paso should expect traffic delays and detours as El Paso Water begins a major infrastructure rehabilitation project along Rio Grande Avenue.
The project, which includes the replacement of aging water and wastewater lines, is now underway and is expected to continue through November.
Construction will take place along Rio Grande Avenue, Dallas Street and Williams Street as part of El Paso Water’s ongoing effort to modernize the city’s utility infrastructure.
Several road closures are in effect during construction, including:
Rio Grande Avenue closed to through traffic between Lee Street and Laurel Street.The intersection of Dallas Street and Rio Grande Avenue.Williams Street north of Rio Grande Avenue.

Detour routes will be clearly marked, and drivers are encouraged to slow down and exercise caution when traveling through the area to protect construction crews and fellow motorists.
While residential access will remain available throughout the project, street parking may be limited in some areas during construction.
El Paso Water said wastewater service will continue uninterrupted. Customers may experience minimal water service interruptions, but any planned outages will be communicated in advance.
Officials say the project is part of the utility’s long-term commitment to replacing aging infrastructure and ensuring a reliable water and wastewater system for residents and businesses throughout the community.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by November.
