According to records filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the City of Wimberley is planning a new $4 million Blue Hole Nature Center at the Hays County park, located about 45 minutes southwest of Austin. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2027 and wrap up the following summer, though TDLR timelines are subject to change.
The 2,375-square-foot facility will include two flexible nature learning spaces that can be combined into one larger classroom, adjacent restrooms, covered porches on the north and south sides of the building and a large outdoor educational courtyard, according to state records.
“The Blue Hole Nature Center is a bold new initiative by the City of Wimberley to create a state-of-the-art environmental education and community hub in the heart of the Texas Hill Country,” the project’s website states. “As a designated One Water facility, the Center will feature interactive classrooms, nature-based exhibits, and restored prairie and wetland ecosystems.”
According to the website, the nature center will also expand Wimberley’s award-winning Nature Camp, serving hundreds of local children each year while providing year-round educational programming for families, schools and community organizations.
Of the project’s estimated $4 million cost, $3 million has already been secured through Hays County’s Parks and Open Space Bond, the website states.
Wimberley Parks and Recreation did not respond to MySA’s request for comment by the time of publication.
