ARANSAS PASS, Texas — A 100-acre brush fire prompted evacuations near Shady Oaks RV Park in Aransas Pass on Wednesday as fire crews and emergency officials responded to the blaze near Highway 35. The large brush fire is now 70% contained according to the Texas A&M Forest Service fire map.
The Rockport Volunteer Fire Department said crews were dispatched to the scene around 1:49 p.m. The fire, now called the Holden Fire, is said to have started near the Highway 35 Bypass at Moore Avenue, near the Aransas Pass city limits.
An evacuation shelter is open at A.C. Blunt Middle School on 2103 Demory Lane in Aransas Pass but will be closing at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
City resource officers and the American Red Cross will be on-site to help at the shelter and provide support.
