Corpus Christi customers could see higher water and wastewater bills

A proposed 2027 water budget could raise water and wastewater bills for Corpus Christi customers, including residential and industrial users.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi customers could soon see higher water and wastewater bills under the city’s proposed 2027 water budget.

City Council held a workshop focused on the proposed budget and the costs that could lead to rate increases next year.

City Manager Peter Zanoni said utility costs, including the cost of water supply, are reflected in monthly bills paid by all customers.

“It is a utility and the cost for the service, the cost for the water supply, all that gets translated into a monthly bill, but it’s all customers that pay that, and that includes big industry, that includes commercial accounts and residential customers, so our residential customers are really a small part of the revenues that come in,” said Zanoni.

Under the current proposal, the average residential customer would see their bill increase by about $4 a month.

Large-volume water users, including many industrial customers, could see monthly increases in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Zanoni said the drought has shown the need for a more diverse water supply.

“We know that this drought has shown to us that we need better and more diverse water supply, and that costs money as well,” he said.

The City Council is expected to continue the discussion during another water workshop July 16.
