EL PASO, TEXAS — A deadly overnight fire at the Johnson Apartments in Central El Paso left one woman dead and another resident displaced as investigators worked to determine what sparked the blaze.
El Paso Fire investigators remain on scene as they work to find out what led to the fire.
A spokesperson with the department said a woman in her 50s died in the fire.
Early investigation showed the fire started in one of the apartment units and spread into a second unit, the spokesperson said.
Another resident was displaced, and the Red Cross was called to assist.
The call came in just after 11 p.m. for reports of a a more serious working fire and it was put out within 30 minutes.
Investigators are also looking into a call earlier in the day in front of the apartments regarding a vehicle fire.
“Our investigators are obviously conducting the investigation to see if there’s any connection there,” said Nina Brack, a fire official with the department.
Crews were still working to determine the cause of the fire.
Authorities had not said how long the area would remain closed off.
