Drivers on Loop 1604 could face major delays this weekend as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) rolls out significant lane closures. Beginning Saturday, July 11, the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road and the westbound I-10 frontage road at the interchange will be closed from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day through Sunday, July 12, weather permitting, to accommodate bridge construction.
All flyover ramps at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange will remain open during the work.
Drivers traveling east on the Loop 1604 frontage road who need to pass through the I-10 interchange will be directed onto the eastbound I-10 frontage road before making a U-turn at UTSA Boulevard to reconnect with the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road.
Meanwhile, drivers heading west on the I-10 frontage road will be routed onto the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road before using the signalized turnaround at Vance Jackson Road to reconnect with the westbound I-10 frontage road.
TxDOT advises motorists to follow all posted detour signs through the construction zone.
The temporary closures are the latest step in the massive $1.4 billion Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. Once complete, the 23-mile overhaul is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and make one of Texas’ busiest highways safer, according to TxDOT.
