LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Friday will bring another mostly sunny and hot day across the region, but relief may be on the way for some areas by evening. Highs will remain in the upper 90s across the Caprock, with temperatures just below heat advisory levels off the Caprock.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms Friday evening across the northwestern South Plains. Wind gusts of 50 mph or stronger are the primary threat with these storms. The rest of the region will likely remain dry Friday.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are also possible across portions of the Caprock Friday evening, with low severe potential. These areas should prepare for gusty winds and outflows from any storms that develop.

A slight cooldown and widespread thunderstorm chances are expected over the weekend as a weather system moves through the area. This will bring much-needed relief from the heat for most of the region.
