FIFA World Cup fans have been battling North Texas’ sweltering summer heat since the first match June 11. Later in June, fans looking to watch England vs. Croatia had to first account for a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office is forecasting a high of 92 degrees Tuesday, with a heat index, or “feels-like” temperature, of 98. Temperatures could drop as low as 76 degrees.
The past three matches at Dallas Stadium (AT&T Stadium) have seen heat indexes above triple-digits.
Showers and storms will be possible Tuesday, with the weather service predicting a 22% chance of precipitation. Early reports from the weather service indicate that this precipitation is most likely to occur in the morning, before the match.
Partly-cloudy skies and high humidity are also predicted by the weather service for Tuesday.
Though the retractable roof of the stadium has remained closed throughout the matches, World Cup fans headed to Dallas Stadium (AT&T Stadium) have faced the extreme heat as they walk from parked cars and transportation drop-offs. FIFA Fan Fest and the city’s other outdoor watch parties have brought even more exposure to weather.
Though Tuesday’s match will be cooler than those prior, there are still several precautions fans can take to beat the heat. The CDC recommends drinking water frequently, finding shade when possible, applying sunscreen, wearing a hat and monitoring for signs of dehydration.
