About 20 Jewish singles over 50 dined together for a special 250th Independence Day Anniversary Community Shabbat Friday night, July 3, at Congregation Emanu El.
Congregants and guests wore red, white and blue and everyone waved American flags. Dinner included traditional Jewish and American favorites, like barbeque brisket, baked potatoes, watermelon and blueberries. Spirits soared, new friends were made and even cousins who had not seen each other for many years caught up with each other’s lives.
For the 4th of July on Saturday night, Emanu El was packed for a free event – watching fireworks from the parking garage rooftop while enjoying frozen treats and spectacular fireworks launched from nearby Hermann Park. The capacity crowd included about 30 Better Together Jewish Singles Over 50.
Emanu El’s Allison Hale facilitated the arrangements for both events.
Better Together Jewish Singles Over 50 will once again join Emanu El members for a lively Community Shabbat with dinner on Friday night, Aug. 14. If you are Jewish, single and over 50, register for dinner at members.emanuelhouston.org/form/2026—08/14/26-prgm—summer-community-shabbat-dinner–better-together.
Better Together’s popular Shabbat in the Park series will resume in the fall and plans for 5787 are already in the works. If you want to get involved or just attend events, join the email list by writing to Bellairelady@sbcglobal.net.
