One month after breaking ground on its first Lone Star State location at Grandscape in The Colony, White Castle broke news in a Facebook post that “Fort Worth Castle” is also coming next year.
The chain plans to invest an estimated $2.1 million to construct a new 2,764-square-foot restaurant featuring a double drive-thru with a canopy and patio seating, permit details reveal. Construction is expected to be completed between early January and mid-April, though that timeline doesn’t guarantee a spring opening date.
White Castle’s social media announcement of the Fort Worth restaurant prompted dozens of excited comments, including from fans who said they’d “been waiting for decades,” and others pleading for locations in cities across Texas now that the 105-year-old chain has begun its long-awaited expansion into the state.
White Castle, known for its beef, bacon and chicken sliders, opened its first restaurant in Wichita, Kan., in 1921. Since, the beloved family owned business has grown to more than 300 locations nationwide. The chain first announced its move to Texas last August, saying that it “couldn’t imagine a more fitting location than Grandscape in The Colony for our debut in the Lone Star State.”
That location is expected to open late fall, White Castle Chief Marketing Officer Jamie Richardson previously told Chron. It’s unclear whether White Castle has larger plans to expand throughout Texas.
