In the first WNBA game in Montreal, the Dallas Wings (15-8) took control in the fourth quarter and earned their fourth straight road victory with a 108-95 win over the Toronto Tempo (9-13) on Friday night.

After Dallas missed their first two shots to start the fourth quarter, Alysha Clark hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Dallas a 90-87 lead. Toronto took a timeout with 7:41 remaining in the fourth quarter. Toronto briefly took a 91-90 lead, but Dallas regained control and built a 97-91 lead thanks to Paige Bueckers.

In response to Isabelle Harrison taking a 91-90 lead with her layup, Bueckers hit a jumper to give Dallas a 92-91 lead and extended the lead to 93-91 with her free-throw.

On the next possession, she hit another jumper with two Toronto players putting hands in her face. On defense, Bueckers stole the ball and passed it to Jessica Shepard who found Clark for a layup. Toronto took another timeout as Dallas led 97-91 with 5:56 remaining in the fourth quarter. Dallas outscored Toronto 24-10 in the fourth quarter to earn their fourth win on the four-game road trip.

Paige Bueckers continues to dazzle in her second season of the W. She is becoming a top player in the WNBA demonstrated by her starting in the upcoming WNBA All-Star game.

Bueckers finished with 34 points on 13-of-22 shooting from the field and 2-of-5 from the 3-point line along with six assists. The Wings needed her 34 points to compete with Marina Mabrey’s 34 points. Bueckers reached the 30-point mark for the second time this season as well as another example of her doing what needs to be done for Dallas to win.

As Wings struggled to stop the Tempo offense, Bueckers was there to keep the score close. She scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with her signature jumpers in the opening quarter as Dallas entered the second quarter trailing 33-25. Then, Bueckers hit a jumper at a buzzer to cut the deficit to 56-52 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Bueckers scored 11 points in a back-and-forth third quarter. Bueckers tied the game at 70 with a 3-pointer as she responded to Mabrey’s 3-pointer. Then, Bueckers shared the ball in the fourth quarter as she recorded three assists. She also used her scoring to take control and give Dallas a 97-91 lead in the fourth quarter.

Marina Mabrey reminds Dallas of her offense

In the game against the Tempo on Sunday, Dallas was able to contain former Dallas Wings Mabrey. She finished with 19 points, which was one point shy of her 20.6 points per game average this season. However, Mabrey made it known that she would not be contained in the second game against the Wings.

Mabrey opened the first quarter with 17 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the 3-point line. Her first 3-pointer gave Toronto their first lead of the game. She hit a deep three to give Toronto the 7-6 lead and hit another deep 3-pointer to give Toronto a 12-10 lead.

In the second quarter, Mabrey got into some foul trouble as she recorded her third personal foul in the middle of the second quarter, causing her to log 1:58 minutes in the second quarter. Then, she picked up her fourth foul in the opening minute of the third quarter.

Despite having four fouls, Mabrey remained in the game and caused problems for Dallas. She scored 13 points in the third quarter on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from the 3-point line.

As the score indicates, it was not a great game to be playing defense. Both teams shot above 50% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line. The game featured nine players reaching double figures as Bueckers and Mabrey both scored 34 points.

Laura Juskaite scored a career high with 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 shooting from the 3-point line. Most of her scoring came in the second quarter as she scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

For Dallas, Shepard continued her strong offensive showing by finishing with 20 points and 17 rebounds while Arike Ogunbowale scored 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 1-of-3 from the 3-point line. Ogunbowale scored the first five points of the third quarter as she gave Dallas a 57-56 lead.
