BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Hundreds of basketball prospects are Bryan this week for a major recruiting event at Legends Event Center, including Texas A&M commit Chase Richardson.
Richardson, a four-star point guard out of Friendswood High School, is the lone commitment in the Aggies’ 2027 recruiting class. He is competing this summer with the TJ Ford Academy Elite AAU team.
“Texas A&M is getting a blue-collar guy. Loves to work, loves to be in the gym. He’s a dynamic player as well, but it’s the hard work that’s going to make the fans love him so much,” Tim Ford, TJ Ford Academy’s 17U head coach, said. “I think that Chase is ecstatic about being in Texas. He’s a Texas kid that really wants to represent Texas.”
Listed at 6-foot-1, Richardson is ranked as a top-10 prospect in Texas, a top-20 point guard in the nation, and the 88th-best player in the country, according to 247Sports.
Richardson said he starting play basketball when he was six years old, but a college career became a realistic goal for him during his sophomore year. He committed to Texas A&M in April.
“I FaceTimed Coach Bucky [McMillan], told him I was fully committed, wanted to be an Aggie. It was awesome. Just his reaction, the whole staff’s reaction to seeing that I committed was just great. And I could feel the love and the energy and how much they’re going to put into me,” Richardson said. “They’re going to help me become a better person and a better player.”
