Texas football made a huge addition to its 2027 recruiting class when five-star offensive lineman Ismael Camara announced his commitment.
The No. 20 recruit in the nation, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Camara on Saturday chose Texas over Alabama, LSU and Michigan, among others. Camara moved to Gilmer from France in high school and comes in at 6-foot-6, 340 pounds.
He made his varsity football debut in 2025-26 and immediately became one of the most coveted prospects in the nation. Camara is ranked the No. 3 prospect in the state and No. 3 tackle prospect in his class nationally. Once he gets to Austin, he’ll work under offensive line coach Kyle Flood, who helped develop New Orleans Saints offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. and current Texas left tackle Trevor Goosby, who is on track to be an early NFL draft pick next spring.
The Longhorns also landed four-star defensive back Brandon Sherrard at the start of July. Sherrard, who played for Shawdow Creek in Pearland, had an offer list that included LSU, Texas A&M and Notre Dame.
Texas’ 2027 class as of Friday is ranked No. 4, per 247 rankings, and No. 5, per On3. It boasts the No. 1 defensive back, John Meredith III, and the No. 1 wide receiver, Easton Royal. The UIL State Executive Committee recently deemed Meredith ineligible to play varsity athletics for North Crowley High School. He’s still eligible to play for Euless Trinity, the school he transferred from.
