EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 28-year-old man is in critical condition following a verbal argument that led to a stabbing in Las Cruces, according to the Las Cruces Police Department.
Shortly after noon on Saturday, July 11, police and fire crews were dispatched to the 800 block of east Madrid Avenue to a report of a stabbing.
When first responders arrived, they found a 28-year-old man suffering from “what appeared to be at least one stab wound,” according to LCPD.
The victim was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso in critical condition. He remains in the hospital as of Monday, LCPD said.
The man believed to be responsible for the stabbing was identified as 37-year-old Pascual Jose Diaz, who was found nearby the scene and taken into custody.

Investigators believe that the two men were involved in a verbal argument that escalated.
Diaz has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence. He was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center, where he is initially being held without bond.
