EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 79-year-old pedestrian is dead after a crash in Central El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department.

As KTSM 9 News previously reported, the crash happened shortly at 10:42 p.m. on Friday, July 10, along 4600 Dyer St.
EPPD’s Special Traffic Investigation Unit’s preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV was traveling southbound on Dyer when the driver struck a 79-year-old man, identified as Lorenzo Sanchez. Sanchez was crossing Dyer at a “non-designated area.”
He was transported to a hospital where he later died to his injuries.
“Contributing factors in this crash are the pedestrian crossing in a non-designated area,” read a news release from EPPD.
This is the 26th traffic fatality compared to 33 this same time last year.
The investigation continues.
