The WWE has announced that Survivor Series: WarGames will be hosted at Daikin Park in August, marking the event’s return to the city for the first time since 2017.
Survivor Series: WarGames, which usually takes place in November, is a major annual event for the wrestling giant. The main attraction of the event is the team-based WarGames bout, which takes place inside a huge, roofless cage encircling two side-by-side rings with two sets of wrestlers going at it.
In partnership with Houston First Corporation and the Houston Astros, the Survivor Series will return to Houston, marking the second straight year the event has been held in a professional sports stadium. Last year, the WWE pay-per-view event was held at Petco Park in San Diego, setting attendance records. Since the Royal Rumble in 2020, this is the first WWE Premium Live Event to take place at Daikin Park.
“Houston is the perfect host city to celebrate this milestone chapter in Survivor Series’ storied history, and we look forward to partnering with Houston First and the Houston Astros to deliver an unforgettable event,”” said WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque in a press release.
The return of Survivor Series to Houston reflects WWE’s expanding efforts to deliver large live events to fans in key markets through partnerships with local government and the business sector.
According to Houston First, a local government corporation that oversees and collaborates with events coming to the Houston area, anticipates a significant economic impact on the community and welcomes the WWE universe to Houston, highlighting the passionate fan base that calls the city home.
“We are proud to be able to help bring one of the world’s premier entertainment brands to Houston for what promises to be an unforgettable holiday weekend,” said Michael Heckman, President and CEO of Houston First. “Houston has earned a reputation for delivering world-class entertainment events, and we look forward to welcoming the WWE Universe to our destination.”
The Houston Astros announced in the press release their excitement for the opportunity to host the event, highlighting Daikin Park’s ability to hold world-class events like WWE and the World Baseball Classic.
“The Houston Astros and Daikin Park take great pride in showcasing our city through big events – from concerts, to the World Baseball Classic and beyond,” said Rachel Quan, Vice President, Special Events for the Houston Astros. “Having a WWE event in our park for the first time since 2020 is another special event our team is excited to bring to our ballpark and our city.”
Houston is no stranger to hosting WWE events. Both WWE Monday Night Raw and SmackDown have come to Houston for weekly shows in recent years. Houston has hosted WrestleMania, Wrestling’s biggest event of the year, twice: in 2001 for WrestleMania X-Seven and in 2009 for WrestleMania 25.
