Tormenta Rampaging Run sets six new records, including the tallest, fastest dive coaster in the world, park officials said.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Six Flags Over Texas is marking its 65th anniversary with the opening of a new roller coaster July 9 that’s breaking records around the world.
Tormenta Rampaging Run is the world’s first giga dive coaster and features six world records, park officials said. The attraction anchors the park’s newly reimagined Spanish-themed area, Rancho de la Tormenta, inspired by the legend of Tormenta the Bull.

“We have taken advantage of this opportunity to completely reimagine this zone, and we have rethemed it as the Rancho de la Tormenta, which is themed as a Spanish village, in which the inhabitants and the villagers all revere their hero, Tormenta the Bull,” Six Flags Over Texas President Pete Carmichael said.
Carmichael said the bull represents the spirit behind the new attraction.
“The bull is a symbol of strength in heroics, and it is was the perfect theme for us to embody just the wild ride that you’re going to experience on Tormenta Rampaging Run,” Carmichael said.
The coaster sets six world records:
Tallest dive coaster: 309 feetHighest 95-degree beyond vertical drop: 285 feetFastest dive coaster: 87 mphHighest Immelmann inversion: 218 feetTallest vertical coaster loop: 179 feetLongest dive coaster: 4,199 feet
The ride carries thrillers 309 feet into the air before pausing them for three seconds over the edge ahead of a 95-degree drop that reaches speeds of 87 mph.
“So we accelerate you up the lift hill, you’re going to see a panoramic view of the entire Dallas-Fort Worth area,” Carmichael said.
The park has already welcomed season pass holders during preview rides, and Carmichael said the early response has been positive.
“It’s a thrill unlike anything else that they have ever been on, and we couldn’t be more proud to open it to our guests,” Carmichael said.
Among those getting an early ride was DFW theme park content creator Josh “JB” Bonilla, who called the coaster his new favorite in the park.
“I was thinking no way Six Flags got a 300-foot coaster and it’s opening this summer, but now I’m like I’m actually on that 300-foot coaster right now and riding it,” JB said. “[My friends and I] rode it right at the sunrise, so at the very top you can see downtown Dallas.”
Bonilla said the ride’s signature pause before the first drop makes the experience even more intense.
“The three second wait — It’s short in reality, but it feels so long because you’re staring straight down at that drop…then finally you drop, and it’s just like free fall moment,” Bonilla said.
The coaster is the centerpiece of Six Flags Over Texas’ 65th anniversary celebration, which also includes 10 new shows and family entertainment throughout the park.
“We have fun for the whole family with children’s and family rides throughout the park,” Carmichael said.
