While San Antonio is dealing with its own flooding and road closures from overnight storms, multiple towns due west are seeing roads completely flooded due to heavy rains.
TxDOT San Antonio warned drivers that U.S. 90 east of Knippa in Uvalde County, around 70 miles west of San Antonio, was experiencing flooding as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 14. The Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office upgraded those concerns, sharing that the area was hit with 11 inches of rain between Sabinal and Concan on I-10, warning that U.S. 90 between Knippa and Sabinal and U.S. 83 North were both impassible.
“Please do not disobey barricades, they are there for a reason,” the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office wrote. “Turn around don’t drown.”
Uvalde Memorial Hospital echoed the message that people need to stay home if they don’t need to be on the road. Anyone traveling must use extreme caution and avoid flooded roadways.
The hospital shared that the City of Uvalde is actively barricading flooded streets and that the following roads are closed as of 9:35 a.m.:
