Demonstrators gather in Boston after ICE-involved shootings in Maine and Texas

Demonstrators gathered at Copley Square in Boston, Massachusetts, to protest the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following a deadly shooting involving agents in Maine.People held signs that said “Jail All Killer ICE Agents” and “Justice for Lorenzo and Johan!””The people see through it,” said Ximena Haspach, one of the demonstrators. “All of us, whether we’re immigrants, whether we’re Latin American, no matter what our background, we stand against these attacks, we are united, and we’re going to keep fighting.”There was a small Boston police presence at the protest, which remained peaceful.Joan Sebastian Guerrero, 26, was shot and killed in Biddeford, Maine, on Monday. Investigators said Guerrero was shot by ICE agents after he allegedly “weaponized” his vehicle as officers approached.In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security said agents were conducting surveillance when a car left the residence. DHS said the driver failed to stop, and an officer opened fire, fearing for public safety.In the aftermath of his death, ICE agents were ordered to temporarily cease vehicle stops, according to ABC News.This comes on the heels of another deadly shooting by ICE agents in Houston, where Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was shot and killed on July 7.Additionally, Renee Good, 37, was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis on Jan. 7, and federal agents shot and killed VA nurse Alex Pretti, 37, in Minneapolis during a protest.
