LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Goodwill Industries of Northwest Texas broke ground Monday on a new facility designed to help residents develop job skills and find employment opportunities.
The organization is partnering with Lubbock ISD and United Supermarkets on the “Pathways to Success Project,” which will combine career services with retail space in one location.
The new career resource center will feature computer stations available free to anyone looking to enhance their job skills or search for employment. Career navigators will be on hand to assist with resume writing, interview preparation and other employment-related needs.
“It’s great to have retail over here and I think more importantly it’s a way to give people a helping hand and get people who maybe don’t have the confidence to be able to go out there, get the skills they need to go to an interview and walk out of there being able to do something that I really hope can change the trajectory of their lives as well as their families lives,” said Sidney Hopper, United Supermarket CEO.
The facility will house a 5,000-square-foot career research center alongside a 10,000-square-foot Goodwill store. The new building will be located along North Martin Luther King Boulevard, just south of East Erskine Street.
The project represents a collaborative effort to address workforce development needs in the Lubbock community through accessible career services and job training resources.
