Corpus Christi Independent School District has announced updated bell schedules for several campuses beginning with the first day of school on Tuesday, Aug. 11, as the district continues to address an ongoing shortage of school bus drivers.
District officials said the schedule adjustments are designed to reduce students’ time on buses while improving transportation efficiency and maximizing available bus driver staffing.
The new schedules come after CCISD surveyed families and staff on May 12 about proposed changes. According to the district, feedback from the survey led to adjustments intended to better accommodate family and employee schedules while improving bus routes.
Beginning Aug. 11, the following campuses will have new start and dismissal times:
Early Childhood Development Center, Metro Elementary School of Design, and Windsor Park Elementary School: 8:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (20 minutes later than the previous schedule)
All other elementary schools: 7:50 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. (no change)
Middle schools, except Metro Prep: 8:30 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. (20 minutes earlier)
High schools, including Metro Prep: 8:50 a.m. to 4:10 p.m. (no change)
Students will continue to be allowed inside their campuses 20 minutes before the school day begins.
CCISD said after-school care programs and extracurricular activity schedules at campuses affected by the changes will be adjusted as needed, with additional information to be provided by individual program coordinators.
District leaders thanked families and staff for participating in the survey process, saying community feedback helped shape the final decision.
The updated schedules will take effect on the first day of the 2026-27 school year, Tuesday, Aug. 11.
