UTSA sent out an update around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning sharing that a “small number” of students were impacted by damage to an apartment community near campus. While no students suffered injuries, the university is working with UT Police, San Antonio Fire and Police departments and the American Red Cross to support affected students, the post reads.
The post did not identify which apartment community was damaged, but the San Antonio Fire Department posted it was responding to a scene at 6023 UTSA Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78249, the address for The Oasis San Antonio apartments. SAFD said it was assessing multiple properties at the Rim over tornado damages but no injuries have been reported.
“As heavy rain and flooding continue in parts of our community, please use extreme caution,” UTSA writes. “Do not drive through flooded roadways or high water, and follow guidelines from local emergency officials.”
Despite this, the university has not canceled classes as of 10:30 a.m., instead telling students to contact their professors if they have concerns about traveling to class.
When reached out for comment, university officials shared the following statement with MySA:
“We do not have any structural damage. Classes are continuing,” UTSA writes. “Students with concerns about traveling to classes should contact their professors to make alternative arrangements.”
Students are told to monitor the UT San Antonio social pages for updates during the day.
