EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – More than two months after 25-year-old Claire Terry died, her family says they are still grieving while hoping to learn the truth about what happened to their daughter.

Terry died on May 6 following what an initial El Paso Police Department report described as a vehicle-pedestrian incident near Doniphan Drive and Paisano Drive. The report documented the case as an “unattended death.”

Since then, the case has been investigated by the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit, a division that handles homicides, death investigations and other violent crimes. EPPD has since presented the case to the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office for review.

While the investigation continues, Terry’s family says they want the community to remember her for the person she was.

“She was amazing… inside and out” her mother, Vanessa Storey, told KTSM 9 News.

Her parents said Terry was studying at the University of Texas at El Paso with hopes of becoming a teacher, a career they believe reflected her caring personality and love for helping others.

For her father, Lester Terry, the pain of losing his daughter remains overwhelming.

“We buried our daughter, but we still carry the pain of all of these events. And not knowing what truly happened is very difficult,” Lester Terry said.

Storey echoed that heartbreak.

“It’s not fair. Every day that I have to wake up and not talk to her or feel that she’s not here… No mother should have to deal with this,” Storey said.

Despite their grief, the family says they are holding onto hope that one day they’ll have answers.

EPPD presented the case to the DA’s office, but has not said anything about the investigation.

KTSM reached out to the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office for an update on the case. A spokesperson said the office cannot release any additional information at this time.
