EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso woman rang the victory bell at the Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus, symbolizing the end of her leukemia treatment.
Cynthia Escajeda, a cancer survivor, walked out of her room and was surprised by her staff and family members, all gathered to witness the major milestone of ringing the bell.
“I knew about it (the tradition of ringing the bell). I didn’t think that it was going to be for me,” Escajeda, said.
She described the moment as “overwhelming.”
“It’s just overwhelming, just joy. That all of the journey that you go through and then you ring the bell. The completion of the journey and I’m just stoked right now,” Escajeda said.
Her family and care team put together a celebration for Escajeda, completed with her favorite foods and treats, according to Providence.
“It was an emotional and unforgettable celebration of strength, hope and resilience,” Providence said.
