After a tornado was confirmed to have touched down on San Antonio’s Northwest Side, TxDOT cameras show debris scattered across a major highway in the area. Meanwhile, locals are reporting damage to a nearby shopping center. Here’s what we know.

TxDOT cameras show debris along I-10 west near La Cantera Parkway on the morning of Wednesday, July 15. A tornado warning had been issued shortly before 8 a.m. and the Austin/San Antonio NWS office confirmed to MySA that a tornado did touch down in that area near the Dominion, moving north towards Leon Springs and weakening as it approached Fair Oaks Ranch. The tornado warning has since expired, and a NWS meteorologist told MySA that the circulation had dissipated.

According to SigAlert, an accident on I-10 West at La Cantera Parkway reported after 8 a.m. caused stop-and-go traffic backed up to Medical Drive. TxDOT lists the collision as major and shows the left two lanes closed down as of 9:03 a.m.. SigAlert noted “road debris scattered across all lanes” and another alert shows a disabled vehicle reportedly blocking the right lane of I-10 West near De Zavala Road.

This is a developing story. Be sure to check back with MySA’s weather and traffic pages for updates, and remain weather-aware throughout the day.
