The newest, Texas-inspired lounge at DFW International Airport will offer travelers curated whiskey and blue corn butterscotch pancakes.
The long-awaited Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club opens Thursday near Gate D25 inside DFW Airport’s Terminal D. The split-level, 18,000-square-foot space, includes nods to staples of the region’s culture like leather accents, the state’s natural elements and Dallas sports.
The expansion at DFW Airport, the central hub of American Airlines, is no surprise for Chase, which has almost 3 million customers in the Dallas area. The company also employees more than 17,500 employees in the region, according to Dana Pouwels, a Chase executive overseeing airport lounge benefits. The company had been in discussions with DFW Airport for “quite some time,” Pouwels said.

“You really need a strong partnership with the airport to determine the best location, the best amount of space, trying to be creative on how to enable that space based on the demand they see,” she told The Dallas Morning News.
“They’re [DFW Airport] very invested in ensuring that they have the right mix of experiences for all the guests that are traveling through there, but they’ve been a fantastic partner to us on this journey.”
With the new space in the terminal, Chase stands to compete with other lounges like Plaza Premium Group, American’s Flagship and Admirals Club lounges as well as ones from Capital One, Centurion and a general lounge known as The Club.
Interest in lounges has spiked considerably in recent years as air travelers began chasing more elevated experiences on the ground and in-flight. Airlines have responded by opening lounges at pivotal hubs across the country to attract high-paying customers.
The demand has major airlines like American, Southwest and others hunting for lounge space. But with travelers seeking higher-end experiences, the burden placed on companies to provide unique, exclusive experiences for lounges has never been greater.

“As you think about our lounge strategy, our goal is to create a lounge that’s welcoming and premium, and really gives card members a true feel for where they are, and really has something for everyone,” said Pouwels.
“So everybody, no matter what their travel experiences or travel party is, has a way to enjoy the lounge and feel comfortable in there.”

The Chase Sapphire Lounge By The Club is specifically reserved for travelers holding Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Reserve For Business, J.P. Morgan Reserve and The Ritz-Carlton credit cards, the company said.

According to Chase, eligible card members also receive complimentary Priority Pass Select membership, giving them access to more than 1,300 lounges worldwide when they present their physical card or digital pass membership and a boarding pass within three hours of departure.
Sapphire Reserve card members also can access over 20 select Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada cafes when flying with a Star Alliance carrier.
Food and drink
DFW’s Chase Sapphire Lounge By The Club is partnering with Bishop Arts District restaurant Encina to bring customers “Texas-rooted flavors with a modern American influence,” the company said.
Guests can expect offerings like blue corn butterscotch pancakes in the morning or a slab bacon dish with cheddar grits in the afternoon. Chase is also partnering with Fort Worth-based, women-owned Cherry Coffee to provide guests with locally roasted coffee.

“When we think about dining, especially for the Sapphire customer, they really value dining experience but also the discovery,” Pouwels said.
“And so when they think about their trip planning, one of the more exciting parts about your trip planning is like, ‘Where am I going to eat?’ And so we want to bring that same curiosity and sense of discovery into the dining experiences in our lounges.”
The lounge’s bar, which features tiered brass canopy and a stone countertop, will offer guests a curated wine list from Parcelle, in addition to signature and regionally inspired cocktails.
The dedicated whiskey lounge will feature a whiskey cart that includes guided pairings, a featured cocktail and a selection of Texas whiskeys, including a custom barrel selection that is exclusive to the lounge.
