Forecasters say relentless storms dumped as much as 20 inches of rain over the past two days, including 8 inches in just the last two hours. Officials are urging anyone in the affected area to move to higher ground immediately. The NWS warned that numerous water rescues are underway, with numerous structures threatened.
“This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order,” the Uvalde County Office of Emergency Management wrote in a Facebook post.
The Flash Flood Emergency is in effect for the area until 10 a.m., according to officials. A Flash Flood Emergency is the highest level of flash flood warning issued by the NWS. It is only when there is an imminent, life-threatening flood with a high likelihood of catastrophic impacts to people and property, according to the NWS.
