As some businesses in Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards struggle, one of the district’s beloved dancehalls has hosted its last shindig. 

Last week, longtime Stockyards bar Madame Pearl’s Dancehall & Saloon announced it would close its doors. The bar announced the news in a video with area Instagram page StockyardsReport.

“I’ve got some bad news to share. This weekend is going to be Madam Pearl’s Dancehall & Saloon’s last weekend here in the Stockyards. ” StockyardsReport host Tristan Dobbs said. “Madam Pearl’s was the first place to ever put me under contract, [owners] Jen and Rick were the first people to believe in me, so it’s a bummer to see them go, but bars come and go in the Stockyards, it just is what it is.”

July 4 was Madam Pearl’s last weekend, and the dancehall hosted one last open mic that Sunday. According to Madam Pearl’s, the venue opened in May 2022 at 302 W Exchange Ave. Tributes flooded Madam Pearl’s Facebook page after they announced their sudden closure. Madam Pearl’s gave no reason for the closure and did not respond to Chron’s request for comment by publication time.

“I’m so sad to hear this. We loved coming there and dancing. We will definitely miss y’all,” one commenter wrote. 

Karissa Ring, a former bartender and Fort Worth realtor, posted an emotional tribute to the venue days before its closure. 

“This is a huge blow to West Exchange,” she said.

Madam Pearl’s was known for its regular open mics and live music and regularly hosted country acts big and small nearly every weekend, according to its Facebook page. 

The closure comes amid several business closures in the area. On June 30, Mexican restaurant La Playa Maya said it would close its Stockyards location, though the company said it would keep other North Texas locations open. Biscuit Bar, a biscuit restaurant with locations throughout the Fort Worth area, also shuttered its Stockyards location after the business shut down entirely.

Madam Pearl’s closure also comes after one of Texas’ more prominent dancehalls, Coupland, was saved from closing last fall.
