Dave Matthews criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during a weekend concert in Camden, New Jersey, highlighting a fatal Houston shooting that is circulating widely online. He referenced the July 7 death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old Mexican national shot by an immigration officer in Houston, and criticized ICE amid President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the officer acted in self-defense, and CNN reported Salgado Araujo was not the original target. The Associated Press said he was allegedly close to obtaining legal status. The New York Times has documented more than 20 shootings by immigration agents since September. On stage, Matthews said he wanted to name the victim and used explicit language while addressing officers.
