Halloween may still be months away, but North Texans don’t have to wait until October to embrace the spooky season. During July, there will be special nights at haunted houses, a Halloween convention, a movie screening and a more Halloween fun.
Here are five “Summerween” events happening around Dallas-Fort Worth during July.
DARK HOUR HAUNTED HOUSE CHICKEN NIGHT

For one night only, scaredy-cats can experience the Dark Hour Haunted House. During this special night, there will be no jump scares and monsters, so guests will get to explore the haunted house with only the show lighting, atmosphere and sets.

CUTTING EDGE HAUNTED HOUSE BLACKOUT 2 “THE AWAKENING”
A one-night-only special event where attendees visiting the Cutting Edge Haunted House will get to experience a sensory deprivation event. Guests will have to navigate through a former meat-packing facility in the dark and go through mazes with only a glow stick for light.

TEXAS HAUNTERS CONVENTION AND HALLOWEEN & COSTUME EXPO
Bring the family to a two-day Halloween convention for Halloween lovers and cosplayers. The convention will feature seminars and classes, cosplay, costume contests, haunt tours, entertainment and performances, meet n’ greets, shopping and a costume ball.
July 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and July 19 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Irving Convention Center, 500 W Las Colinas Blvd., Irving. SUMMERWEEN!: ‘PRACTICAL MAGIC’ MOVIE SCREENING
During the month of July, the Silent Book Club will be reading Practical Magic, a novel by Alice Hoffman, and will be hosting a spooky screening of the 1998 movie in the Fairmount Coummunity Garden. For food there will be spooky “summerweenies” by El Salchichón FW and iced Summerween drinks by Ostara Coffee Roasters.

Music and Halloween lovers over the age of 21 are invited to attend a Summerween spectacle featuring performances by Safe in the Dark, Right Behind You and Andromica. Attendees are invited to wear costumes or beach attire.
