Filming on viewside drive
After 20 years of writing neighborhood stories here at Lake Highlands Advocate, I never quite know what might capture readers’ imagination, and lots of you read Tuesday’s post about the mayonnaise commercial. I have to confess — it looks like the joke’s on me.
Neighbors were abuzz trying to figure out what film crews were doing on Viewside Drive, and the multiple box trucks and dozens of crew members on the street made it clear that something interesting was brewing. So, much like I did with the story of the little, yellow house at the corner of Fair Oaks and Walnut Hill, I just walked up to one of the crew members and asked, “hey, what are y’all filming?”
He was straightforward in telling me it was a “mayonnaise commercial,” but he indicated he couldn’t tell me more. You can read more about my experience watching their filming and my conversation with a production assistant here.
Turns out film crews often deal with looky-loos (like me) who want to know what’s going on. They’ve developed a standard answer which has become a bit of an industry joke. You guessed it — they tell Gladys Kravitz-types they’re filming a mayonnaise commercial. Check out this funny video.
As the crew member in the video explains, folks working on the project aren’t being rude, they’ve just signed non-disclosure agreements, so they can’t spill the beans. I guess we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled to the TV for scenes from Viewside Drive.
