Floods continue to affect cities across Texas, prompting numerous counties to evacuate residents for their safety. With major roads shut down, evacuating cities like Uvalde and Kerrville may not be an option, so emergency shelters have begun opening for those in need of a place to wait out the storms.
Some shelters across South Texas offer meals, beds and even animal care, but it is important to stay safe while traveling from place to place while flood warnings are still in effect. Turn around if you encounter any streets flooded. The following list will be updated as more information becomes available.
Multiple shelter locations have opened in the Uvalde area as of Thursday, according to Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department. They include Flores Elementary Campus at 901 N. Getty St., Dalton Elementary School at 600 N. Fourth St., and Southwest Texas College at 2401 Field Road.
Kerr County Sheriff’s Office has shared a list of three established shelters for people displaced from their dwellings. They include: Calvary Temple at 3000 TX-534 Loop in Kerrville, City West Church at 3139 Junction Highway in Ingram, and Center Point ISD Gymnasium at 215 China St. in Center Point.
Kerr County residents whose pets need to be sheltered amid the floods can take them to Kerr County Animal Control at 199 Spur 100 in Kerrville. KCAC asks that people bringing in pets call ahead at 830-739-248.
