OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — The Guymon Fire Department deployed to Texas on Thursday, as heavy flooding continues to impact central and south Texas.
The department’s specialized Swiftwater Search & Rescue team deployed to South Texas to assist with water rescue and recovery efforts after multiple days of heavy rainfall flooded parts of the Texas Hill Country.
In Oklahoma City, the fire department is sending five Oklahoma City firefighters, three Yukon firefighters, and one Oklahoma City police officer to assist with rescue in the Texas Hill Country.
“The call came from Oklahoma Homeland Security Office and the Office of Oklahoma Emergency Management requesting Guymon’s Swiftwater boat team to assist other Oklahoma Teams in this massive rescue operation currently ongoing west of San Antonio”, said Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley.
GFD said the team is made up of individuals specializing in water rescue, boat operations, rope rescue, and hazardous materials operations. All team members are also trained as paramedics.
