Disco Al Fresco, put on by rolling vibe impresarios Sound Cream, has moved locations from Pearl and Hemisfair to Sunken Garden Theater.
Outdoor dance party SoundCream, recognizable by its disco ball-equipped Airstream trailer, has shifted from its residencies at the Pearl and Hemisfair and will debut a new series called Disco Al Fresco at Sunken Garden Theater.
Sunken Garden, an open-air amphitheater carved into a limestone quarry near Brackenridge Park during the 1930s, once hosted the San Antonio Symphony and the Civic Opera. During the 1970s and 1980s, touring rock acts from Santana to Metallica performed there.
SoundCream is partnering with Brackenridge Park Conservancy on the new disco series. Although recently underutilized, Sunken Garden still hosts local events ranging from goth dance nights and concerts by West Side Sound purveyors Eddie & the Valiants to Fiesta’s Taste of New Orleans.
Founded in 2017 by DJs Andres Rizo and Danielle Collier, SoundCream has brought the party to public spaces for nearly a decade, creating a ritual for those in the know and an unexpected delight for visitors who stumble upon it.
“For eight summers, SoundCream brought thousands of San Antonians to Pearl Park and Hemisfair to dance together under the open sky, completely free. No tickets. No barriers. Just community, music, and movement,” organizers said in an emailed release. “It became a ritual. A weekly reset. A reminder that this city knows how to feel good together.”
The Sunken Garden series will run 7:30-10:30 p.m. every Thursday through July 30.
“Disco Al Fresco 2026 will transform the Sunken Garden into a disco-drenched nature nightclub celebrating the full spectrum of sound that makes San Antonio what it is,” the organizers added. “Reggae. Cumbia. Amapiano. House. R&B. Dancehall. Tejano. Each night a different world.”
Unlike SoundCream’s prior free parties, Disco Al Fresco is a ticketed event with general admission priced at $5 plus fees. However, unlike Pearl, parking is free.
“Disco Al Fresco is a movement to take nightlife into nature,” the event’s website states. “Created by two parents that were tired of the depleting atmosphere of the nightclub world, Disco Al Fresco wants to change how people go out.”
As such, the dance series is all-ages and family-friendly.
