Earlier that day, Steward took to Facebook to help find her husband after rising flood waters swept away their mobile home while he was in it early Thursday morning in Kerr County. In an updated post to the Kerrville Breaking News group, she confirmed that her, “husband, Mark, was found and went to be with Jesus.”
“My heart is broken. I am devastated,” she wrote in the post. “…Thank you for all the search and rescue people. I am so tremendously grateful for my loving community of Kerrville/Ingram. Thank you for your prayers as I try to figure this all out. Mark, my love, I will forever be grateful for the beautiful years we shared together. You made me be a better person. I love you all.”
The San Antonio Express-News reports that Steward was a 65-year-old man from Kerrville. According to Steward, their creek-side home, located behind Jalisco on Junction Highway, floated away amid rising waters which flows into the Guadalupe River in Kerrville.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed Thursday afternoon that at least one person had died following heavy rains and severe flash flooding in Kerr County. Travis County Judge Andy Brown told MySA in a statement that Travis County’s medical/rescue STAR Flight helicopters found one person dead from floodwaters in the area early Thursday morning.
Another one of Steward’s family members, Maranda Freeman, also confirmed her cousin, Mark’s death on Facebook.
“Our family is completely heartbroken by this loss,” Freeman wrote. “While we had been holding onto hope and praying for a miracle, we now find comfort in knowing that he has been found and is at peace in the arms of our Lord. We are forever grateful for every pray and please continue to pray for Jennie, and the immediate family as they begin to navigate this loss.”
