CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coastal conservation efforts in the Coastal Bend are getting a boost after the Harte Research Institute at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi received a $25,000 donation to expand its beachcombing education program.
The donation will help the institute create new weekly videos and articles about items that wash up along the Texas coast. It will also support outreach efforts aimed at teaching the public about coastal conservation.

Jace Tunnell, director of community engagement at the HARTE Research Institute said its beachcombing program reaches thousands of people in person each year and millions more through social media and other publications.
“This check is really gonna help us to be able to broaden what we do and reach even more people about the stuff washing up at the beach and hopefully lead to conservation efforts through education,” Tunnell said.
The donation will also help fund a community-wide beachcombing event scheduled for Oct. 10. The event will give the public an opportunity to learn more about the Texas coast and its ecosystem.
