LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock ISD is asking community members to weigh in on the naming of district facilities, with a recommendation form now available for public submissions.
The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees holds final authority over facility names under Board Policy Local CW, but district officials said community input is a key part of the process.
What qualifies for naming
The naming process applies to any district building or part of a building, including wings, annexes, libraries, auditoriums and gyms, as well as outdoor facilities such as fields and courts.
The board considers several criteria when evaluating names. Names may reflect geographical features associated with the area, events of local, state or national historical significance, or the program or function tied to the facility — such as the AgriSTEM Complex. Names may also honor individuals of local, state or national historical significance, distinguished educators or board members who have retired from district service, or community partners recognized for advancing public education.
How to submit a recommendation
Community members can submit names using the Facility Naming Recommendation Form available on the district’s website. The form lists all facilities currently in the naming process. Those wishing to submit more than one recommendation must complete a separate form for each submission.
Once recommendations are received, the board reviews the submissions and selects a name it determines best fits the facility.
For facilities that involve a new campus, the district said the next step after naming will be selecting the school’s colors and mascot. Additional information will be shared once a campus name is chosen.
