A Dallas man is accused of physically assaulting a woman, leading to the death of her unborn child.
Dallas Police said they were called to an assault on the 200 block of Fran Way at about 5 p.m. on May 16, where a pregnant woman said 18-year-old Xavier Phifer assaulted her.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where it was discovered that her unborn child had died.
Phifer was arrested on May 21 and charged with assault of a pregnant person, a third-degree felony. The charge was later upgraded to include felony injury to a child after determining the death of the woman’s unborn child was related to the assault.
Dallas Police said Phifer and the man and woman knew each other, but they didn’t elaborate on the nature of their relationship.
Phifer is being held in the Dallas County Jail on bonds totaling $1,125,000. It’s unclear if he’s obtained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
